The Lynsted branch of the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men is one of 18 branches currently in existence.  The Association (or the County Society) has a long history, being founded in 1897.

The difference between a Man of Kent and a Kentish Man was originally determined by his birthplace - those born to the east of the Medway river being Men of Kent and those to the west being Kentish Men. Nowadays there is a more relaxed attitude with place of residence being the main criterion.  We also have overseas members with a Kent connection.

The Association's title can be misleading in that there are many lady members who are known as Fair Maids of Kent or Kentish Maids.  Often, husbands and wives join the branch together.

The Association's aims are noble in  encouraging good fellowship and citizenship and a sense of pride in the historic County of Kent.  They also provide bursaries to students in tertiary education and operate a benevolent fund.  One of the main aims is to provide social activities for its members.  Each branch has autonomy in deciding its calendar of events.  Interbranch events are encouraged.  See our Calendar of Events in the menu.  Guests are welcomed at all our events.

For over 25 years, Lynsted branch has staged a mixture of fund raising and non fundraising events designed for the mixed-age membership.  We enjoy the organisation, the participation and the satisfaction we derive from donating to charities and worthy causes.  Since 2000, we have raised over £9000 which has been distributed to around 40 local charities and worthy causes.  See Charities Update in the menu.
