News from Cantium Lodge - from John Butler, Council Rep and Editor of "Kent" The May 2008 issue of 'KENT' magazine is at the printers and will be with members soon, I hope, as it will contain the usual application form for your attendance at the Association Service, AGM and Lunch in Dover on Saturday 21st June next. The venue for our meeting will be the historic Town Hall, with it's beautiful stained glass windows. Both Dover and Deal/Walmer branches have cooperated in making the arrangements, something not previously attempted, I believe? Council Chairman elect Maurice Palmer and Edward Barkway, President of Deal & Walmer Branch, are looking forward to a good attendance to make this a successful day. Please give them your support. The branch held its Annual General Meeting at the Royal Cinq Ports Golf club on Friday 29th February. The committee and Chairman were re-elected for the next twelve months. Bob Parkin was elected to join the committee. As Chairman, Carol Stickler provided a summary of the last years events, which had ended with a very successful Branch 50th dinner dance. President Edward Barkway thanked all the committee for their hard work. Many members attended the AGM, and it was recognised that without the support and generosity of the members the Branch would not have been able to donate over £1,000 to local causes in the last year. Our programme of events for 2008 is: Wednesday 23rd April. St Georges Day Dinner. The Court Yard, Deal. Saturday 24th May, Cheese & Wine and a guest speaker at Deal Town Hall. Saturday 19th July, Deal Castle Reception. Black tie. Saturday 20th September Nosh & Knowledge 1919 club, Deal. Saturday 18th October 11am Trafalgar Day Commemoration. St George's Church Deal.
