SageBage - perambulations from pram to present by David Bage - President Men of Kent Lynsted Branch

“The time has come”, webmaster said

“To write another page

Your last piece has now  been well read

And is no longer ‘sage’.

“It’s all old news, in fact ‘old hat’

Time for some thoughts anew

Just write some words upon this, that

Or ‘the other’ in lieu

“What about your life here long past?

You’ve much of that I know

Temporary things that last and last

Or fixtures  quick to go

“You may soon recall, of course, a

tale that’s not to be missed

all about a man called Horsa

and one more called Hengist

“Think again, stop for a while, a

man who’s just as pleasant

Man of Kent  that is Wat Tyler

a revolting peasant

“Normandy Bill came down our way

We let him pass right through

We lived to fight another day

Unconquered that is true

“All these things must come to your mind

as you put pen to page

and then perhaps,  you’ll be so kind

and submit it as SageBage”

“That’s all very well” SageBage said,

“Of our many hits who’ll

know that old Hengist was soon dead?

Leaving  Horsa to rule

“- over thirty years, the legends tell

Upon a Kentish throne.

Wat Tyler, we all know as well

revolting, not alone.

“with peasants full of cry and hue;

- but, peace,  soon he sought it

but before he could meet Dick Two

we learned that he had ‘bought it’

“Give me some more time”, SageBage said

“I might recall some more

but just for now I’m off to bed;

behind you, shut the door!
